Use strong deadbolt locks on all exterior doors and regularly check that they are working properly. 

Home security system:

Install a home security system with motion sensors, door/window sensors, and alarms to deter intruders and alert you to potential breaches. 

Lighting:

Ensure your home and the outside is well-lit, especially at night, to discourage potential intruders.
